EMPIRE TRANSITIONAL KENTUCKY MAHOGANY SIDEBOARD.Early 19th century, Lexington, Kentucky. Attributed to the workshop of Robert Wilson of Lexington, Kentucky. The rectangular top with bowfront center flanked by incurved edges mounted with a classical splash guard with central fan cresting flanked by square columns and capitals. The case with central bowed drawer above a pair of bowed cupboard doors, further flanked by short drawers above bottle drawers. The case ends each with short drawer above a long cupboard door. The incurved ends with blocked center. The case sides with recessed panels. The whole raised on swelled, ring-turned, tapering legs with ring cuffs, raised on brass-capped fitted casters. Note: the secondary wood of this example is poplar and the long cupboard doors of laminate construction with mahogany veneers and fascia. SIZE: 56-1/2" h (overall), 43-1/4" h (case) x 76" w x 22-3/4" d. CONDITION: Proper left rear caster needs re-attaching. Sideboard retains all original surfaces. Top with light surface abrasion. Brasses are later replacements. Bottle drawer locks later replacements. Loss of fascia board to proper left door edge. Otherwise structurally good. 52829-96 HMG (1,200-1,800)
