FINE AND RARE PINE CHILD'S DECORATED BLANKET CHEST.First half 19th century, Germany. Painted in the Dutch or German style, the hinged lid with applied molded edge, opening to interior, lined with wallpaper, densely decorated with rows of floral rosettes and leaf tips within diamonds. The interior of the dovetailed chest fitted with a lidded till. The rectangular chest on a simple molded base, raised on suppressed ball feet. The whole paint decorated with a stylized floral filled urn, framed by a landscape of trees and hills within a rectangular cartouche, framed by a smoke decorated border on all sides, embellished with red and white triangles and with fan-shaped forming spandrels at each corner of the cartouche. The lid decorated with an abstract image of a cloud filled sky. Each end paint decorated with a central tree flanked by stylized hills with scrolling shrubbery. SIZE: 10-1/4" h x 17-1/2" l x 10-1/4" d. CONDITION: In-use wear and abrasions, primarily along edges. Light soiling overall. Black paint on moldings and feet has been touched up at some point.
