GROUP OF SEVEN SILHOUETTES AND TWO SMALL PORTRAITS.First half 20th century, American. 1) Two small portraits. First, a small image of a gentleman in black coat with brown hair and blue eyes, painted on an ivory oval, housed in a conforming copper frame. The second, a half-bust gouache portrait of a young child in blue with white lace collar, blonde hair and blue eyes, housed in an oval foliate frame with bow tied ribbon crest. 2) Two full-body silhouettes. The first, an image of Louis Armitage and his cat "Chippy". Signed lower right "N. CHAPMAN". The second, an oval full-body gouache and ink portrait of a young girl holding a flower in a formal dress with ribbon tied sash and gold highlights. Marked on the back "H&J WALTER LONDON". The third, full profile ink and gouache portrait of a gentleman in full length coat, top hat in his right hand. 3) Paper cut bust portrait profile of a young gentleman with ribbon tied hair and lace cravat, mounted on a brown paper, together with an ink profile bust portrait of a gentleman in high color coat and cravat with bouffant style wavy hair, the whole with gold highlights. SIZE: 1) 1-3/4" h x 1-1/2" w. 2-3/4" h x 2-1/3" w. 7-5/8 h" x 5-1/2" w. 2) 7-3/4" h x 5-3/4" w. 4-1/2" x 4-3/2". 7-1/2" h x 3-3/4" w. 3) 4-3/4" h x 3-3/4" w. 3-3/4" h x 2-3/4" w." CONDITION: 1) Small portrait has a vertical crack on right third of portrait and smudging to areas of face between lips and nose proper right side. Portrait of child in blue, general slight fading. Structurally very good, frame original. 2) Armitage image: background paper with overall light even toning. Normal and expected abrasion to frame, otherwise very good. Young girl: all original, brass frame with original surface. The painting original and undisturbed. Very good overall. Gentleman: very good overall with minor, even toning.
