HENRY LEECH FOLK ART CARVING OF AN ELK'S HEAD MOUNT.Henry Leech (1809-1885) Boston/Woburn, Massachusetts. This fine Victorian example of a carved elk's head mounted with natural antlers, set on an oval plaque, branded on the reverse "H. LEECH WOBURN MASS". Note: H. Leech, a recognized carver of nautical figureheads in greater Boston moved to Woburn, MA where he continued his craft. Another carving of a steer head sold by James D. Julia, Inc. in August 2012, Lot #2458. SIZE: 35" h approx x 24" w x 19" d. CONDITION: the carving with original, untouched surface. Ears reattached with contemporary screws. Minor loss to proper right eyelid. Repair to plaque of horizontal break, lower quadrant, otherwise very good. 52829-7 HMG (3,000-5,000)
