CARVED AND PAINTED WHIRLIGIG OF A CIVIL WAR SOLDIER.Second half 19th century, American. With carved facial features and mustache, the figure wears a military hat with leather strap and a blue and white uniform. The rotating arms hold saber-like swords that serve as wind paddles. Head made separately and connects to body with pivoting peg, allowing for variable positions.
