WENDELL GILLEY CARVED SEAGULL ON STAND.Ca. 1969, Southwest Harbor, Maine. This large example depicting a seagull perched on a weathered piling mounted on a plank. The artist's signature inscribed on the post in black ink "Gilley/69". SIZE: 53" h (overall) x 27" w x 27 1/2" d. PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: The sculpture retains original surfaces with light soiling and with faint seam cracks at base of wings, tail, and upper legs. Glass eyes original and intact. Some minor abrasions to outer edge of proper left wing. Very good overall condition. 52714-27 HMG (1,500-2,500)
