WONDERFUL CARVING OF AN OSPREY CAPTURING A FLOUNDER BY WENDELL H. GILLEY.Circa 1965, Southwest Harbor, Maine. Wendell H. Gilley (1904-1983). This signed and dated example titled "OSPREY" in black ink beneath the base depicting a naturalistic osprey preparing to eat a captured flounder. Both on a piece of driftwood mounted on an oval carved pine plinth. SIZE: 19-1/2" h x 11-1/2" l x 9-1/2". PROVENANCE: A most historical and important collection from the estate of Maria Decatur Mayo Deyo (Lila) Garnett of Kittery Point, Maine. CONDITION: The bird with diagonal hairline stress crack, upper proper left leg, otherwise very good overall with original undisturbed patina retaining rich color. 52714-99 HMG (1,000-1,500)
