MINIATURE CARVING OF A RUFFED GROUSE BY RALPH E. STUART TOGETHER WITH A SECOND RUFFED GROUSE.The first carved by Ralph E. Stuart (1901-1965) Osterville, Massachusetts. Circa 1955, signed in ink "RUFFED GROUSE / R E STUART 1955". The bird nicely painted in earth tones. Mounted on a natural driftwood plinth. The second signed "L. W. STEPHENS WINDHAM MAINE" depicting an adult ruffed grouse mounted on a natural cedar plank simulating a muddy riverbank, the grouse with muddy socks. SIZE: The first: 3-1/2" h x 6-1/4" w. The second: 3-1/2" h x 5" w. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: The first very good with undisturbed surface.
