GEORGIAN TALL CASE CLOCK ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM HUTCHINSON, CASTLEDAWSON, NORTHERN IRELAND.The case with swan's neck pediment terminating in molded brass rosettes centering a ball and spire brass finial of later vintage. The bonnet with arched door flanked by spool-turned colonnettes joined to the waisted case with a reeded band. The paneled waist door flanked by canted, reeded corners joined to the box base with similar corners on a simple plank base. The whole in a varnished red wash. The weight-driven brass movement striking on a bell. The dial decorated with a large floral spray within the arch above an Arabic numeral chapter ring centering a calendar arch, time and strike apertures, and subsidiary seconds dial, all centered with polychrome painted floral spandrels. The minute and hour hands of interesting barb design with engraved scrolling floral devices throughout. SIZE: 85" h x 14-1/4" w (throat) x 9-1/2" d. CONDITION: Case of somewhat primitive design and construction, with old red wash as previously noted. Old repairs to swan's neck pediment, the bonnet door, and colonnettes. Stabilized cracks on box base. Case feet absent. Dial with overall craquelure, soiling, abrasion to numerals, and loss of white enamel along most edges. Brass movement reasonably intact but in need of overall adjustment. Pendulum intact with original brass-clad bob. Period brass and iron winder and pair of iron weights included. Case in need of substantial restoration. Fair overall. 52712-1 HMG (1,200-1,800)
