CHIPPENDALE MAPLE SIX DRAWER TALL CHEST.Second half 18th century, probably New Hampshire. The rectangular dovetailed case with applied concave molded cornice over six graduated long drawers, all with thumb molded edges on a molded base raised on bracket feet with shaped returns. The matching backboards with deeply chamfered edges. Newly repolished chest shows vestiges of original red paint. SIZE: 51-3/4" h x 40" w (overall), 36-1/2" w (case) x 19-3/4" d. CONDITION: Chest with repolished surface as previously noted. Matched set of hardware are later replacements in original holes. Cosmetic repairs to molded edge of two top drawers as noted. Backboards original. Bracket feet appear original. Normal and expected in-use wear with old abrasions now polished on top. Very good overall. 52829-83 HMG (1,500-2,000)
