CHIPPENDALE TIGER MAPLE SLANT LID DESK.Second half 18th century, Massachusetts. The rectangular dovetailed case with hinged, sloping lid resting on lopers. The interior fitted with a row of shaped document compartments centering a prospect door, the interior fitted with two drawers, flanked by four banks of two drawers all above three graduated long drawers with molded edge, raised on a molded plinth on bracket feet with shaped returns. SIZE: 40" h x 38" w x 22" d. PROVENANCE: From an unreserved Corea, ME collection. CONDITION: Desk retains old surfaces. Lid with large, old rectangular patch in area of lock, 12" x 3-3/4". Exterior of lid with similar patch, 4" sq. Brass hardware of the period but not original to desk. Feet and backboards original. 52885-15 HMG (800-1,200)
