CHIPPENDALE MAPLE SLANT LID DESK.Last quarter 18th century New England. The rectangular dovetail case with hinged, sloping lid opening to an interior fitted with valenced pigeonholes over serpentine document drawers centering a bank of blocked small drawers, the uppermost fan carved. The case fitted with four graduated long drawers and lopers, the drawer with thumbmolded edges. Raised on bracket feet with scalloped returns. SIZE: 42" h x 36" w (case) x 18" d. CONDITION: Desk retains original backboards, feet, and batwing brasses. Good honey-brown color and undisturbed patina. Desk lid with old horizontal narrow shrinkage cracks, now stabilized, filled, and polished. Very good overall. 52829-2 HMG (2,500-4,500)
