THREE 19TH CENTURY SAMPLERS.The first an alphabetical sampler dated 1817 by Elizabeth Young titled "Elizabeth Young's Work" and mimicking the form of a horn book. Ribbon tied at base with rows of alphabet and Arabic numerals, the date flanked by crowns, all within a zig-zag border. Mounted in a simulated rosewood ogee frame. The second a pictoral sampler wrought by Agness (last name and date rendered indistinct through age and insect damage). The sampler depicts a manor house flanked by trees, a Scottish thistle, crowns, and birds beneath flower-filled urns under rows of alphabet. The third sampler embroidered by Mary Hutcheson and dated 1815. Sampler is finely wrought with a poem within a dogtooth border with arrangements of fruit, flowers, and songbirds above the girl's name and flanked by stags, fruit-filled trees, and butterflies, all on a linen ground. SIZE: First: 11-1/4" h x 4-1/2 (sight). Second: 16-1/4 h x 13-1/2" w (sight). Third 15-1/4" h x 12-1/2" w (sight). CONDITION: First: very good with minor and minimal soiling and toning. Second: with insect damage to name and date at bottom as noted. Even discoloration to foundation, now a pale tea color. Colors remain vibrant.
