SPONGE DECORATED AND GRAIN PAINTED EARLY AMERICAN PINE BLANKET CHEST.Second quarter 19th century New England. The rectangular hinged top with applied moldings opening to an interior fitted with a lidded till. The case with rounded bootjack ends. The whole with bold sponge and grain decoration in earth tones of browns and yellows. SIZE: 21-1/2" h x 37" w x 15-1/2" d. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: Chest with normal and expected wear and abrasions. Lid with diagonal shrinkage crack, now stable.
