UNIQUE FOLK ART MERMAID CHECKERS GAME BOARD.20th century New England. This pine example with applied gallery edge additionally mounted with two strips at either end of the checkerboard to house the game pieces. Each compartment decorated with a swimming mermaid with flowing hair holding a brush and mirror. The checkerboard in pale red on ocher ground; the whole with forest green trim. The artist's monogram on the verso signed in black ink with a conjoined "DM". SIZE: 17" l x 14-1/2" w. PROVENANCE: Contents of a lifetime collection "Brook Crossing," South Pomfret, VT. CONDITION: With dry, crusty paint surfaces. The board with vertical shrinkage split through center, now stable. Otherwise good. 52806-183 HMG (500-700)
