Sharps converted the New Model 1859, 1863 and 1865 carbines from percussion to cartridge after the authorization of 1867. A total of 31,098 carbines were converted. Bores were relined with three groove rifling. This is a pretty typical conversion that features the post front sight, Lawrence rear sight, single trigger, saddle ring and bar, walnut stocks and carbine buttplate. CONDITION: Barrel retains 95% of the reblued finish and is stamped "NEW MODEL 18??". Frame is basically a grey-brown patina. Stocks have been revarnished with the still visible "DFC" ribbon on left side of buttstock for David F. Clark. Wood is excellent and proud to metal. Strong rifling with some normal minor abrasions. Fully operational. These were very historic arms that they were used in the Civil War and then used in the Wild Western Frontier.
