Lot contains: A) Admiral Spruance's four Star Admirals Flag, constructed of wool bunting measuring 4' by 6'. Cotton hoist is signed "Best Always R. A. Spruance Admiral U.S.N." Used by Admiral Spruance on his flagship the USS Indianopolis. He commanded the 5th Fleet from 1943 on to the defeat of the Japanese in 1945. CONDITION: Excellent. B) Four Star Admiral's car flag which measures 5-3/4" by 9", exhibiting embroidered stars and sleeved at the hoist. Accompanied by a Navy Relief Society card signed by Thomas C. Kincaid. The Naval relief fund auctions were and are a source of fund raising to help sailors and Marines with financial assistance both at home and abroad. Many celebrated military leaders donated uniforms and other personal effects to help the Relief Society to raise funds. CONDITION: Flag shows areas of moth tracking and a few small holes.
