Lot contains: A) Model 1881 holster with two position flap to accommodate either Colt single action or Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver. With the advent of the Krag rifle and 100-round canvas cartridge belt, existing belt loops on holsters were too small to go over a loaded belt. Therefore, the Secretary of War ordered that existing holsters be modified to accommodate the new belt. Rock Island Arsenal issued new belt loops with instructions to remove old one and install a new larger one with six rivets instead of three to replace original stitching, rather than open up rear seam and re-sew it after modification. This is a nice solid holster with a very strong embossed oval/US, and makers stamp "Lanz, Owen & Co Chicago". CONDITION: The leather is smooth with no crazing or wear. B) Earlier type Model 1881 holster with two position flap to accommodate either Colt single action or Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver and small loop for the saber belt. With clear oval/US and "Rock Island Arsenal" markings. CONDITION: Holster exhibits minor crazing, intact plug and most of its original finish. From the Ray Bentley collection.

Condition: Excellent
