Around the period 1883, Lieutenant Colonel James Forsyth submitted for construction a number of U.S. regulation flap holsters which had a much larger belt billet on the rear, comprised more of a flap with a riveted dual-riveted looped billet which fit around the body of the holster about halfway down its length. This allowed the arm to be fitted and worn with the prairie belt (Mills cartridge belt) which was much wider than the regulation cavalry saber belt. However this design would also work with the regulation saber belt and roughly 500 were manufactured. It features strong embossed oval/US, and "Rock Island Arsenal" stamp. CONDITION: This holster is in excellent condition showing much of its original finish, supple leather and no crazing. From the Ray Bentley collection.

Item Dimensions: Each : 13" x 3".
