Measuring 23-1/2" in overall length, the baton is chiefly of rosewood construction, with a 4" long ivory tip carved with rococo elements and oak leaves, and a 9" ivory section forming the grip and pommel carved with acanthus leaves, rococo elements and surmounted with a spreadwing eagle. The grip section with a braided white cord knuckle guard ending in a pair of tassels. On the main body is a 1" tall golden shield, with zig-zag borders, inscribed "PRESENTED TO/Captain L.D. Baldwin/BY THE/MEMBERS OF HIS/COMMAND/26th PRECT BROOKLYN/JANy 8th 1901." CONDITION: Mostly fine condition with a few very small edge cracks and with wear to the tassels.
