Very early black powder frame Colt with barrel altered to 5-1/2" and new half moon front sight dovetailed in. All matching numbers including barrel but only "00" readable on cylinder. 1874 saw the introduction of the three line patent date but this example has the two line patent date, which would indicate an older frame. The .45 Boxer cartridge was introduced in 1875 and this is marked ".45 CALIBER B" on left trigger guard. Revolver sports horn handles. CONDITION: Strong barrel legend. All metal is basically cleaned to in the white with scattered light pitting. Has screw-in frame and donut head ejector. Indexes but does not quite align. Bore has strong lands and grooves. Although chambered for an English cartridge the gun has the Hartford barrel address and no English proofs.
