The Model 56 was one of AYA's highest grade guns, and was exceptionally well fitted and finished. This high condition example has 26" barrels with 2 - 3/4" chambers and 28" barrels with 3" chambers. Both are of chopper lump construction, and have raised, matted, solid ribs. Rear portions of ribs are gold inlaid "1" and "2". AYA name and "MADE IN SPAIN" are rolled on tops of right barrels. Case hardened H&H type sidelock action, features automatic safety, hidden third fastener, side clips, bushed strikers, Purdey type vented breeches, engraved line tumbler end cocking indicators, and double triggers (front articulated). Action and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage very well executed multi-sized scroll surrounding rose bouquets. Bottom of action is engraved with makers name and "EIBAR". Blued top lever and single beaded trigger guard are also scroll engraved. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Striking, nicely fiddle figured and dark marbled flesh toned European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-1/16" over checkered wood butt, and features classic drop points and borderless point pattern checkering at grip. Each barrel set has its own dedicated forend; 26" barrels have splinter ejector forend with Anson release, and 28" barrels have a beavertail ejector forend with Deeley release. Gun and barrels are housed in tan leather trunk case with stitched leather corners, lined in green felt. A gold embossed black paper AYA label is in lid. CONDITION: Excellent with evidence of limited field use. Barrels retain over 95% original blue with some scattered light scratches. Action retains 70 - 80% original case hardening colors, silvered on fences and beads, thinning a bit on bottom. Lockplates retain essentially all of their original color. Sharp edges of thumbpiece and trigger guard are lightly silvered, blue is thinned at grip. Stocks retain nearly all of their original hand rubbed oil finish with numerous light handling marks. Bores are excellent. Mechanically excellent. Case is very fine. These high quality guns are often a relative bargain on the market, as they are often brushed off as their lower quality brethren.
