Third Reich Postal Leader's Protection Dagger with belt loop made by Paul Weyersburg. The Postal Leader's Protection Dagger was instituted in 1939 and designed by the firm of "Paul Weyersburg" located in Solingen, Germany. The overall condition of this dagger is excellent. The blade features the Paul Weyersburg trademark on the reverse near the cross guard. The steel blade is in very good condition showing consistent freckling along the entire length of the blade, as well as a uniform graying. Light perpendicular runner marks run the length of the blade. The nickel plated dagger fittings are in near mint condition with uniform signs of wear. The underside of the cross guard is stamped with the dagger number "1936" as well as "DRP" (Deutsche Reichs Post). The black ebony grip shows signs of uniform wear to the black finish. The grip is also void of any major cracks or chips, which these are prone to. The silver plated Reichs Post eagle emblem is firmly in place on the grip and retains 95% of it's finish. The scabbard of this dagger is in near mint condition, retaining roughly 90% to 95% of its original black factory paint and nickel plating. All scabbard screws are intact. The solid nickel silver chain hanger is intact and, even though a solder joint has come open, shows no signs of tampering. The hanger clip retains roughly 80% of it's nickel silver plating and is marked DRGM. The leather belt loop is good condition with some uniform freckling. A highlight to this dagger is the correct portepee knot, which appears to be originally tied to the grip still. Many of these Postal Daggers are missing their correct knot, and finding one on the market can be difficult. The knot is in excellent condition, with no major fraying. It is silver with red flakes along the length of the cord, and the acorn end having a red core. A rare opportunity to acquire a complete Postal Leaders Protection Dagger.
