Third Reich Government Official's Dagger made by Carl Eickhorn with portepee and hangers. The Government Official's Dagger was introduced in 1939 and produced by one of the most desirable blade manufacturers, "Carl Eickhorn, Solingen". The Carl Eickhorn examples are the hardest to find on the market and are, arguably, of the best quality when compared to other daggers of this type. The overall condition of the dagger is excellent. The steel blade is in excellent condition, showing light cross graining with light graying and freckling throughout. The reverse of the daggers is etched with the makers squirrel motto. The brass based, silver plated, cross guard and eagle pommel are in excellent condition retaining approximately 85% to 90% of the silver plating. The mother of pearl grip plates are in near mint condition with no chips or cracks, and are firmly attached. The silver plated steel based scabbard is in excellent condition with areas of scattered light marks and patina. The scabbard is void of dents or creases. The hanger bands held securely in place and exhibit excellent craftsmanship shown in the details of the oak leaves. The dagger hanger is black or dark green trimmed with silver bands down the center. The hanger fittings are made of a zinc base metal, and show a uniform patina throughout. The portepee is still tied to the grip, with an area of heavy fraying where the cord was exposed to the most wear.
