Lot consists of: (A) Imperial Japanese Samurai Sword, and (B) Japanese Imperial NCO Samurai Sword. (A) The Japanese Imperial Navy is overall in excellent condition. The length of the blade (from Tsuba to Tip) is 26". The blade is machine made with a straight temper line, known as the "Hamon", and the tang is unsigned. The cutting edge, known as the "Hasaki", is straight and without any chips. The tsuba and fittings are in excellent condition, with some parts having lost their gold finish. The cloth wrapped grip is tight, and has developed a very consistent smooth worn look to it from handling over the years. The ray skin wrapped, wooden scabbard is in very good condition. The scabbard has some scattered light marks, and the 75% of the seam has come open from the shrinking of the skin. The scabbard fittings are in very good condition and retain roughly 65% of their original gold finish. (B) The Japanese NCO Sword is in, overall, excellent condition. The 27-1/2", machined, steel blade is in excellent condition with a few nicks to the cutting edge (Hasaki), and random scattered light marks. The blade is stamped with the numbers "129827" and is held in place by a screw in the grip. The grip, tsuba, and fittings of this sword are made out of a white metal and painted to resemble that of a traditionally made samurai sword handle. Just below the Tsuba, the black fitting is marked with Japanese arsenal marks. The grip retains approximately 85% of its original paint. The green painted steel scabbard is in excellent condition. The scabbard shows signs of wear and scattered light marks throughout. The sword itself is securely held in the scabbard by a levered locking mechanism.
