Most commercial Mauser ribbed barrels are 1/3 octagon, 2/3 round, this 23 - 3/4" tapered fully octagon barrel is quite unusual. Integral matted rib is marked "Waffenfabrik Mauser A. G. Oberndorf a N." on unmatted portion. It is fitted with standard one standing, two folding leaf rear sight and silver bead front in raised portion of rib. Caliber "8.0N" (Normal .318 Bore) is on rear portion of barrel. Standard length commercial action with stippled receiver ring and pear shaped bolt knob has usual proofs and markings on left side. Bottom metal with pivoting lever release to hinged floorplate is fitted with second type double set triggers. Stock of lightly figured and streaked European walnut measures 14 - 3/8" over checkered horn buttplate, and features right hand cheekpiece, sunburst horn grip cap, slight schnabel to forend, and classic Mauser checkering at grip and forend. CONDITION: Fine, as partially refinished. Metal parts retain 60 - 70% original blue. Stock refinished long ago with sanding marks present. Bore is excellent, smooth and shiny throughout. Action is smooth. A scarce Mauser variant that could be improved with sympathetic restoration of wood finish. MGM13
