(Ca 1912) Hans Tauscher, the American agent for Mauser, had many rifles of this configuration made specially for the American market. They had ribbed barrel, horn forend tip, fancy wood, and checkering at grip and forend. Most were made in .30-06. This example with Mauser name and address on unmatted portion of rib, also features long range tangent rear sight. Left side of action and receiver ring are marked with Mauser Oberndorf address, receiver ring also marked "U. S. 1906". Bolt, with matching number, has classic pear-shaped knob. Bottom metal has hinged floorplate marked "Germany" which is retained by button in trigger guard bow. Triggers are late style double set. Stock of nicely fiddle figured European walnut has schnabeled horn forend tip, horn grip cap, and Mauser marked composition buttplate. CONDITION: Good, with additions. Barrel and action retain most of their original blue, considerably worn from normal hunting use. No pitting is evident. Stock retains most of its original finish with numerous scratches and marks. A social security number has been scratched into left side of stock in front of bottom metal. A 1 - 1/4" extension has been added to butt and fitted with Mauser buttplate. Length of pull to end of original wood is 12 - 7/8". Rifle is fitted with narrow Williams Guide carrying strap in original loops. Bore is fine with some frosting and grime toward breech end (should clean). Set triggers work. MGM14
