28 - 3/8" Chopper lump barrels are engraved "Regle Au Tir" and "Double Choke Modifie" on tops of barrels either side of slightly raised matted rib engraved "Galand Paris Liege". Barrel flats are stamped with 1925 Belgian nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Bottoms of barrels are engraved "Compressed Steel". Case hardened action with reinforced bar is fitted with Holland & Holland style sidelocks and features automatic safety (S inlaid in gold), hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, double triggers (front articulated), and with H&H type hand detachable locks. Action and lockplates are engraved with exceptionally well cut acanthus swags with floral highlights in a background of small scroll. Left lockplate is engraved "Galand Fr Bvt." and right "Paris - Liege". Fences are relief carved with acanthus and flowers in sympathy with other engraving. An imperial crown is inlaid in gold on top lever. Engravers signature and address are on bottom of action in arched ribbons, as part of central motif with grotesque face. Trigger guard is also well engraved, serial number is on tang. Dark and dense, nicely streaked and fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/2" over Silver type pad. Exceptionally well cut point pattern checkering is on diamond hand behind classic drop points. A vacant gold oval is on rear of comb. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. CONDITION: Good to fine, as refinished. Barrels retain nearly all of an excellent quality re-blue, engraving still clear. Rib matting is softened. Action has been cleaned to coin finish, and there are some scattered, barely noticeable light pits, mostly on left fence. Stocks retain most of an old oil refinish over some marks with a few subsequent light scratches, checkering worn, and has not been re-cut. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Some of these lesser known European makers produced guns of excellent quality and are often an outrageous bargain in today's market. This is a great gun. MGM43
