24 - 7/8" Demi-bloc barrels are fitted with full length matted rib, center portion milled away forming quarter rib and front ramp. Rear portion is fitted with claw scope bases and single standing U-notch rear sight. A silver bead is dovetailed into front ramp. Central portion of rib is engraved "BERNHARD FRITZ a FICHTENBERG" (Before his early demise, Fritz was a highly regarded late 20th century maker of superb sporting guns). Bottom barrel is stamped with 1992 Oberndorf proofs for 30-06 and steel type (Bohler Antinit). A sling loop is soldered to bottom barrel. Coin finished double Kersten OU Blitz action is fitted with ornamental sideplates and features automatic safety, bushed strikers, and double triggers (front set). Action and sideplates are engraved with flourishes of shaded acanthus scroll as accent to superbly detailed attractive sporting scenes in backgrounds that appear to be of the American West. These scenes are rendered in modified bulino technique. Left side portrays two elk in battle as cow elk looks on. Craggy mountain tops are in background, and sprigs of foliage and tree stumps are in foreground. Right side depicts a trio of wolves. A large male watches as two females are howling. Bottom of action depicts an eagle stooping upon some hapless victim. This interesting work is signed "F. Oberdorfer" at bottom right of wolf scene. Reinforcing bolsters to action are relief carved in nicely executed acanthus scroll. Steel trigger guard has scroll and open field for initials on bow. Very nicely streaked and lightly figured dark European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over thin black rifle pad, and features nicely sculpted small shadow line right hand cheekpiece and modified point pattern borderless fish scale "checkering" at grip. A sling loop matching that on barrel is on toe line. Matching three piece ejector forend has Deeley release. Rifle is equipped with Swarovski Habicht 2.5 - 10X 30mm rail scope with crosshair and three post reticle in claw rings. Scope has original lens protectors. Drop at heel: approx. 2-1/2". Drop at comb: approx. 1-3/4". Cast slightly off. Weight without scope: 8 lbs. 5 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, very close to new, appears almost unfired since proof, with only the faintest marks in metal surfaces, and a few dings and light scratches in wood, mostly on butt. Mechanically excellent. Scope is excellent, optically clear. A lovely good handling rifle in a great caliber. MGM46
