Between 1914 and 1917 Springfield Armory shipped a total of 25,767 pistols with production ending on April 17th, 1917. Due to the short production and the hard service of first World War, most surviving examples are extremely worn. This rare pistol features to Ordnance bomb stamp on left side of frame along with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Slide has the pre-1913 patent information along with "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY USA" and Ordnance bomb on left slide. Right side of slide has the Springfield eagle and is stamped "MODEL OF 1911 US ARMY". Features all correct proper era parts to include Type II beveled rear sight, small front sight, Type I wide spur checkered hammer, checkered slide stop and safety, flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop, long smooth trigger, correct barrel with "S" vertical stamp on right lug. Has the proper Springfield two tone Springfield lanyard ring magazine with distinctive folded and welded base, and copper plated top. The diamond checkered walnut grips can be seen with the elongated truncated diamond pattern. This pistol was made during the first year of production in which a total of 3,030 were manufactured. CONDITION: Overall retains approximately 60-70% original blue, balance blue-brown patina with some scarring near takedown. Rear sight is loose and needs staked. Grips show wear pattern, having been worn on left side. Strong, clean rifled bore with bright grooves.
