This revolver dates from the last series issue of 1903 and is dated on left side of frame. Left side of frame also bears the "JTT" inspector stamp for John Thompson and "RAC" for Renaldo Carr. Assembly number 8504 is on crane and cylinder release. Back of cylinder has "RAC" stamp. Bottom of barrel has "K' and "P" stamps. Bottom of both grips are stamped "RAC". Gun features six shot, double action, blued finish, lanyard ring. Butt is stamped "US ARMY MODEL 1901". CONDITION: Clean, smooth, homogeneous gun with 75% original bright blue mixed with patina, especially on backstrap. Some light handling marks. Walnut grips are excellent. Indexes and locks up correctly. Strong mirror bore. Far above average. These revolvers were shipped to the Philippines at the turn of the century and are famously remembered for their lack of stopping power Moro's and bringing back the .45 Single Action Army. Arguably the most affordable U.S. issue handgun and offers a myriad of variations for the Martial collector on a budget.
