Offered is an early 4th Model with large brass trigger guard and Hartford address. Features octagon barrel, roll engraved Naval scene non-fluted cylinder, brass straps, one piece varnished walnut grips. Military inspector stamp "S" on left front trigger bow and "M" on left rear trigger bow; the "M" and "S" are Army inspector marks indicating military procurement. Grips are usually not varnished on military models but varnish on this gun appears original or could have been varnished at a later time. "2" on left barrel flat. Brass screw on bottom of butt looks to have been there a long time. CONDITION: Blue and case colored finish is now a soft, even brown patina. Traces of plating on brass trigger guard. Barrel edges and legends are sharp. Naval scene on cylinder is almost complete visible. Full or partial matching serial numbers on frame, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, loading lever, cylinder pin and wedge. All original nipples. Pins are worn. No cartouches visible on stocks. Missing wedge set screw. Indexes and locks up tight. Strong, sharp rifling with minor black powder abrasion. Nice, above average and early Hartford Navy.
