The Ross Rifle Company as the manufacturer of service rifles for the Canadian troops during the first World War, but they were experimenting with and producing sporting rifles at the turn of the last century. Bolt action sporting rifles were already popular in Europe and were just starting to take hold in the United States in 1900. These early sporting rifles were beautifully machined and finished, and the Ross was as fine as a bolt action sporting rifle in 1910. Features long full round barrel, sleeved front sight, sling swivel attachment, single leaf folding rear sight, bolt action straight pull, blued finish, checkered black composite grips cap, single trigger, dark American walnut straight comb and checkered steel buttplate. CONDITION: One would be hard pressed to find a better example of this sporting rifle. Barrel retains approximately 95% of the original factory blue finish blending with some soft patina and light age freckling. Frame retains 90% of the bright blue. Bolt retains 95% bright blue. Checkered walnut stock is near mint with nary an impression. Bore and action are fine. The biggest problem with the Ross rifle is the availability of .280 Ross ammunition. This gun was also chambered in the .303 Brit which is much easier to find and therefore sells at a premium. All in all, a spectacular condition, very early sporting rifle made in Canada.
