Total production of these arms was 4,021. They were made from 1855 until 1857, this specimen is dated 1855. Many of these guns were issued to the 1st and 2nd US Cavalry for use in the west. Standard markings with 1855 date on lock and on the breechplug tang. As is common on these, the number on the stock (which is an original) does not match the number on the gun. "H.H.V." stamped into the brass grip cap, meaning unknown. The nipple is oversized and appears to be from a musket. CONDITION: Metal surfaces have been heavily cleaned with light pitting. Markings are clear, although the "V" and the "P" barrel proofs may have been restamped and most other have been refreshed. Wood on both the gun and stock have been refinished, with some pieces replaced and filled. Visible cartouche on the gun. The stock has a large piece of wood replaced and is plainly visible. There is an old crack in the stock of the pistol on both sides just above where the stock metal meets the gun. Bore is worn with pitting and visible rifling. Good mechanical function.
