Although still officially designated a Model 1911, in 1923 at serial No. 130000 Colt began production of what was to become the Model 1911A1. This featured the following changes: checkered arched mainspring housing, shortened checkered trigger, beveled trigger guard edges and new Type III hammer. This pistol was manufactured in 1924 and for all intents and purposes, it is built with most of the configurations found on a 1911A1 Model. This so-called Transition pistol had a production of approximately one year with an estimated 10,000 pistols made, making it an extremely difficult to find model, especially in high all original condition. This pistol features blued finish, pre-war fully checkered walnut grips, short checkered trigger, beveled frame, checkered arched mainspring, Type III checkered wide spur hammer, standard pre-war sights and matching number on slide. Comes with proper two tone tempered magazine. All other small parts are standard checkered pre-war type. Front grips strap retains approximately 20% original blue. Overall gun has high edge wear and muzzle wear but retains fully 80-85% original pre-war high polish finish. Bore has strong lands and shiny grooves. A fine example of a rare transition that is all original and matching, that shows wear but retains high percentage of original finish and obviously well-cared for.
