The Model 1851 Cadet rifle was made by the Springfield Armory between 1851-1853 with a total of around 4,000 being produced. These weapons were made in .57 caliber with a 40 inch round barrel. Only 1,160 rifles were made in 1853. Matching 1853 dates on both barrel and lock. Smoothbore. Ramrod is most likely a replacement. CONDITION: All metal surfaces have been cleaned, however markings are all clear and original. Some light pitting. Wood has been refinished. "JHT" is carved into the left side of the butt, "IK" into the right side. Both sets of initials have been filled in with plastic wood, along with some other plastic wood filler repairs to dings and handling marks overall. Bore has some slight pitting. Lock is in good working order.
