The Tower marked lock is dated 1862. Commercial Birmingham proofs on the barrel of "24", with the addition of S/HC in an oval for Sinclair, Hamilton & Co. This gun also features the script "J.C." in an oval in the wood opposite the lock with the accompanying "SH/G3" marking in the wood just before the buttplate tang. According to The English Connection by Russ A. Pritchard Jr & C.A. Huey, these are the marks of an as of yet unidentified Confederate viewer. CONDITION: The barrel has been refinished at some point, some of the barrel markings appear to have been freshened. The lock retains a pleasing patina. Brass has been polished bright. The sling swivels, possibly the middle band, and rear sight ladder are reproductions. Lock is in good working order. Wood has been refinished, although markings are clear. Ramrod has been cleaned to bright. Bore has some rifling. Nipple protector leather and split ring are reproductions, steel part is an original, brass chain may be a reproduction.
