Wonderful Gold handled walking cane inscribed "PRESENTED TO GUSTAVE YOUNG AT HIS 50TH ART JUBILEE". The handle is believed to be manufactured by Tiffany but has not been verified. The but cap end is further engraved "SPRINGFIELD MASS 6 1891". 34 inch black piano finished shaft with metal ferrule at tip. This wonderful cane is pictured on page,46 of "THE BOOK OF COLT ENGRAVING" by Robert L. Wilson. Previously from the Johnie Bassett collection and the Raymond Bentley collection. Gustave Young was the master engraver for Samuel Colt. His work spanned many years and is considered to be one of the finest American artisans and embellished the most important pieces of mechanical art produced by Colt. CONDITION. Exceptionally fine with the handle being well preserved and with out damage with little indication of use. The blackened shaft is most likely produced from hickory that has a piano varnished finish and is very fine with very slight surface wear. The metal tip has typical light wear. From the collection of Jason Roselius.
