(1928) Standard configuration for pattern with 20" round barrel fitted with tangent curve rear sight, action with double set triggers. Intermediate length action is specially made for the 7 x 57 cartridge with long receiver ring and shorter than standard bolt. Other features of the Type "M" were its steel buttplate with trap, full length stock with steel muzzle cap, bail type front sling retainer, butter knife bolt handle, and rounded front portion of bolt stop, all to aid carbine being carried in a saddle scabbard. This carbine has all matching numbers on barrel, action, and bolt shank, with the exception that the barrel number has the third interger "0" overstruck by "1". As all parts were hand numbered, it is not unusual to see similar mistakes. Action has later addition of claw scope bases, front dovetailed through receiver ring, rear screwed to bridge. A Hensoldt DURAL - DIALYTAN 4 X rail scope with three post reticle is in see-through steel mounts, rear with windage. Lightly fiddle figured European walnut stock with steel grip cap measures 14-3/8" over steel buttplate. (Cleaning rod in trap.) Point pattern checkering is at grip and forend. Weight without scope: 7 lbs 10 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, as completely restored. Metal parts retain approximately 98% re-blue over scattered marks and a few scattered pits. Proofs and markings are somewhat washed from polishing. Bolt body and handle are bright polished. Stock retains nearly all restored finish, checkering re-cut. A barrack's bag cut is in front of sling bail. Original wood retained. Bore is very fine to excellent. Action is smooth. Set trigger works, spring light. Trigger pull is very light (may need attention). Scope has numerous marks and scratches in its original lacquer. An extra hole is in mounting dovetail. Optics are clear. A popular Mauser variant in what is most likely the most desirable standard caliber. MGM 77.
