Lot consists of: (A) Third Reich Luftwaffe Sword, (B) Third Reich Panther Head Sword. (A) The Third Reich Luftwaffe Sword is in excellent condition overall. The 28-1/2" blade is in excellent condition with light runner marks and some freckling in various areas. The tip of the sword appears to have been dulled slightly at some point. The blade is maker marked for the firm "Gaefler". There is a Luftwaffe acceptance stamp on the blade approximately 3/4" above the maker mark. The silvered brass cross guard and pommel are in near mint condition. It does appear though that the swastikas areas on the pommel and guard have been polished down to the brass base level. The leather wrapped grip is decorated with a double braid wire wrap and is in very good condition. The scabbard measures 30" in length, and is in excellent condition. There are a few scattered light marks on the leather and the silvered brass fittings of the scabbard. The blue leather hanger is still firmly attached to the rings of the scabbard. (B) The Third Reich Panther Head Sword is, overall, in excellent condition. The unmarked 33" blade is in near mint condition. The brass hand guard and hilt are in excellent condition showing an even aging throughout, the black trylon wire wrapped grip shows slight patina, and a few of the wires have come loose. The black painted scabbard is in excellent condition, and retains approximately 90% of its original paint.
