19th century or earlier. In the Asian taste, the guarding dog with opening for spout. Etched design of rondels and scales. Surface with good patina, a hole on each side of jaw of unknown purpose. Figure maybe missing the underside of the animal. Proper left foreleg is bent. 4-3/4" x 7-1/4". Provenance: From a Private collection, many which were decommissioned from The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York in the mid 20th century.
