(1924) 28" Barrels with slightly raised matted rib have chromox steel and Philadelphia markings on tops. Breech ends are engraved with 2" triangles of large open foliate scroll. Barrel flats are engine turned and stamped with serial number and Fox proof. Case hardened action with automatic safety and double triggers is engraved in "D" style with near full coverage large open shaded scrolling acanthus surrounding game scenes, major subjects of which are rendered in relief gold inlay. A pair of snipe are flying over a marsh on left side of action, and a pair of quail flying over meadow on right. Bottom of action depicts a setter pointing a pair of flushing grouse (?). Blued trigger guard with matching scroll has serial number on tang. Lightly marbled and stump figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/8" over serrated composition buttplate. Stock is checkered in "D" style with fancy pattern at grip with flourishes into comb, separated from grip checkering by ribbons. Side panels are also checkered. Matching long splinter ejector forend with slightly schnabeled tip with ebony inlay, has Deeley type release. Interior or iron is stamped with patent dates, and is border engraved. Gun is housed in tan leather case with stitched leather corners, lined in burgundy cloth, and has "Finest Gun in the World" Fox label in lid. Case contains a pair of snap caps. CONDITION: Excellent, as custom finished, retaining nearly all finely rendered finishes on all wood and metal surfaces, with two or three fairly heavy dings on left side of butt. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time. Top lever release pin does not hold lever completely clear of barrel extension. Case is excellent. A fine and flashy quail or woodcock gun. MGM61
