31" Barrels of twist steel are engraved "J. Blanch & Son 29 Grace Church St. London" on broad concave game rib. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with London black powder proofs, serial number and "HG". A greenheart ramrod with brass tip and tail is held by two plain pipes. Breeches have un-vented platinum blow-outs. Breech iron with integral fences is nicely scroll engraved. Bar locks are fitted with tall flat faced serpentine hammers with stylized dolphin heads, and are engraved with exceptionally well cut open scroll. "J. Blanch & Son" is at the front of each lockplate. Blued trigger plate has stylized pineapple finial, and is fitted with grip safety. Trigger guard is engraved with a pointer in open field. Lightly fiddle figured European walnut straight grip stock measures 14 - 1/8" over steel buttplate with long top tang, engraved with scroll and game birds. Grip and forend are coarsely checkered and a rectangular silver crest plate is at top of grip. Stock mounts to barrels with captive side bolt through oval steel escutcheons. Quartered oak case with dramatic grain is fitted with double ogee inlet brass corners and circular central medallion. Lid is secured by two pivoting brass hooks. Case is lined in green cloth, and has reproduction Blanch label in lid. Locks display on burl walnut platform as often done during the flintlock era. Accessories include cleaning equipment, ebony handled nipple wrench, copper bodied flask embossed with stork among rushes, and an unmarked leather shot pouch. CONDITION: Fine to very fine, as partially refinished. Barrels retain approx 80% dramatic brown finish with excellent definition to pattern. Locks retain most of their original color. Stocks have old refinish with numerous marks, checkering cleaned up. Buttplate, trigger guard, and trigger plate retain most of an old charcoal blue. Bores are very fine, shiny, as cleaned. Locks are crisp. Safety works. There are some slivers of wood missing from forestock along left barrel channel. Case retains nearly all of an old varnish refinish. Renewed interior cloth is very fine. Accessories are good. MGM68
