(1972) 26" and 28" Dovetailed barrels are gold inlaid "Puccinelli Gunmakers" in old English script, along with "John Gately" on slightly raised game ribs. "I" and "II" are at rear portions of ribs. Tops of barrels are engraved "Peerless Game Gun" "Made in Italy". Barrel flats are stamped with 1972 Italian nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers' 28" Barrels with "FAMARS" (the esteemed firm of Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli). Case hardened sidelock action features non-automatic safety, bushed strikers, H&H type detachable locks with take down pin on left lockplate, and single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with 80% coverage exceptionally well cut small scroll as a background for small rose bouquets in traditional Boss style. Bottom of action is engraved "ARMI - FAMARS" "GARDONE V.T." This very well cut scroll is signed "F Iora" (Ferruccio Iora, born in Brescia in 1924, specializing in scroll, and also in engraving and inletting the forend shields found on A& S and other high grade Italian guns, including this one) on trigger plate. Single beaded small bow trigger guard is engraved with matching scroll, serial number is on tang. Dark streaked and somewhat marbled flesh-toned European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 3/8" over checkered wood butt. Stock features drop points and very closely spaced point pattern checkering at grip. Matching semi-beavertail forend has Anson release. Central uncheckered diamond is inlet with gold crest plate, with sovereign's crown and "PUCCINELLI" on scroll above and below initials "J G" on central oval. Gun is housed in good quality brown leather case lined in green velvet. Puccinelli's label is in lid. Bottom compartment has space for action and both sets of barrels. CONDITION: Excellent, close to new with only a few very light marks in all wood and metal surfaces, most noticeable of which is a fairly heavy dent at rear of right lockplate and a scratch on right side of butt. Bores are excellent. Mechanically excellent. Holes for attachment of sling swivels on barrels are plugged, this is undoubtedly how this gun left the factory as there is no sling hole on toe line of stock. Case leather has some scuffs and rubs. Interior cloth is very fine to excellent. Puccinelli specialized in custom high end shotguns. MGM67
