This lot features a swivel breech rifle stamped" J.R. Shuler Liverpool" with octagonal rifled barrels, brass furniture and rifle sights. Shuler worked in Perry County Pa. from the mid 1850's to circa 1880. Curly maple buttstock with brass engraved oval lid patchbox and black piano finish. Back action percussion lock with double set triggers and 5 coin silver inlays, including a nice eagle and shield inlay. Brass barrel joint and original hickory ramrod. CONDITION: Metal retains nice original patina. Triggers function well and rifle is mechanically sound and tight. Brass toeplate is missing 1/2inch piece next to buttplate. Trigger guard has damaged grip (bent) but no breaks. Stock retains 50% of original black "piano" finish with no visible cracks or repairs.
