This classic York County, Pennsylvania fowler features a three-stage iron barrel with notched rear sight and brass front sight. Flat lockplate stamped "SWEITZER". Brass furniture typical of York County. Partially figured full-length maple stock with relief carved scrolls elaborately carved in the style of Frederick Sell. CONDITION: Good. Has been shortened about 1-1/4" and lock has been professionally reconverted to flintlock configuration. Barrel and lock retain a dark brown patina. Brass is polished and has some scattered marks. Stock has an added coat of varnish and has one piece replaced between top of lock and barrel tang and a few splinters along forend on each side replaced. Carving is excellent, showing little wear. Wooden ramrod probably a later replacement. This is a very nice York County buck and ball rifle.
