This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2018
This lot features a percussion rifle signed in script by George Fay. Fay worked in Blair and several other surrounding areas from 1850 to circa 1880. Gun features a full curly maple stock with full octagon rifled barrel. The lock is made by Truitt Bros and controlled by double set triggers. Rifle has brass furniture with nicely engraved 4 piece spear point finial patchbox. Engraved brass sideplate with circular cross hatch pattern design typical of Fay's work. 16 German silver inlays of various shape and design including a" pie plate" or "eye" shaped inlay common to Fay rifles. Silver blade front sight and rifle rear sight. Original ramrod with nice worm tip. CONDITION: Original finish on stock with several repairs including two 1/4 inch strips along right side of the forestock. A 1/4 inch strip of wood has been replaced on the left side near the nosecap. Wrist has been repaired with iron screwed brass strips with 2 running along the tang and 2 running along the trigger guard, possibly done by Fay since engraving on them matches the other engraving. Brass parts are a golden color with a incorrect brass tack holding side patchbox finial down. Metal has a pleasing plum patina with no major flaws. Mechanically sound and functions fine.
