Benjamin Vore was a Kentucky rifle maker in Bedford County Pennsylvania. The rifle is made using the frame of a Whitney Navy revolver. The rifled octagonal barrel is signed on the top "B. Vore" in script and it fitted to the frame and wrapped with a brass band at the breech. The barrel has a full length stock of figured maple with a brass nose cap. The pistol's original loading lever is still intact and inset into the stock. The grip straps of the pistol have been adapted to become tangs for the Bedford County style maple buttstock with carved cheek piece, brass band at the wrist, two piece patch box and buttplate. Perhaps, a Civil War veteran returned to Bedford County with not much money but in need of a rifle, having only a pistol. This innovative Bedford gunsmith crafted a high quality and functional revolving rifle. CONDITION: Very Good. Barrel retains a light brown patina with a crisp signature and deep rifling. The six-shot revolving percussion action retains a brown patina, but the cylinder does index properly. The brass furniture is somewhat polished and retains a mellowing patina. The stock is good, and retains much of the original finish and has a few scattered marks from use. There is one minor chip in front of the loading ever and a hairline crack at the toe. This is truly a unique American rifle.
