(ca 1910) 30" Dovetailed barrels are engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO ENGLAND" on slightly swamped game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with 1987 Birmingham nitro re-proofs for 2 - 1/2" chambers at .740. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with original London nitro proofs for 2 - 1/2" chambers. Case hardened action with double ogee back, features classic Westley Richards third fastener engaging dolls head on rib extension, automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), and single selective trigger, selector button on trigger plate. Engine turned hand detachable locks, patent use 1975 are under hinged floorplate with checkered release button. Action is engraved with 80% coverage well cut medium sized shaded scroll. "WESTLEY RICHARDS" is inlaid in gold on scroll terminated riband on each side. Blued top lever, floorplate, and small bow trigger guard are also scroll engraved. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Nicely streaked and fiddle/ flame figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 5/8" over checkered wood butt. Point pattern checkering with mullered borders is at grip. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching splinter forend fitted with Deeley ejectors, has horn tip and Deeley release. Gun is housed in old possibly original oak and leather case with brass corners, embossed "E. G. H." on top. Interior is lined in light blue velvet, and has Westley Richards Agency gold embossed black leather label in lid. A new charge card with particulars for this gun is also installed. Case contains 2 piece brass and rosewood cleaning rod, pull through field cleaning kit, and new Westley Richards marked square oil bottle and snap caps. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Barrels retain 95%+ best quality re-black, most likely applied at time of re-proof with a number of subsequent marks and scratches. Action retains over 95% correct re-color, and blued parts retain nearly all of their renewed charcoal blue. Trigger guard is somewhat silvered at grip. What are quite possibly new (contemporary with proof) stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish with some light marks and a few dents. Checkering lightly worn. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger works well. Case leather has considerably darkened, with many old scuffs and rubs. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is fine with some insect damage and rubs. Makers label has rubs and scuffs. Accessories are fine. An attractive old Westley Richards, one of the first with a hinged floorplate. MGM52
