Circa 1830, a very early pair, one of the earliest pair of true dueling pistols by the famous English gun maker Westley Richards. First pistol has finely engraved bolt lock with push on safety, signed Westley Richards, with checkered hammer spur in tact. The 9 -1/2" octagonal barrel with patteneted breech decorated with two platinum lines. Front and rear sight, Spur trigger guard, engraved with characteristic British pineapple finial. Figured walnut half stock is coarsely checkered at wrist. Second pistol identical to the previous pistol except trigger requires adjustment. Condition: Box retains faint traces of hard hardening, barrels are worn and poorly re-browned, actions are both guns are crisp and function well. Ram rods appear to be original. walnut half stocks with some original varnish and scattered moderate dents. Left side of one pistol is missing 3/8" piece of wood on the fore end and a piece of left side of breech, otherwise intact. Pistols are cased in a period rosewood box with some accessories, relined in red velvet. Trade label is a modern replacement.
